Besides crying, my other favorite thing to do when watching a movie is laugh. So when I heard the Wayans brothers were bringing back Scary Movie I was ecstatic. the Wayans family has been making me laugh for as long as I can remember, from the wayans bros show to, white chicks to 50 shades of black, little man, dance flick, to sextuplets. Their ability to be ridiculous, go over the top, and never take themselves too seriously is what makes their comedies so hilarious...
but for some reason this wasn't.
Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed it. It was just as over the top and ridiculous as I hoped it would be, it just left me in this weird limbo where I felt the laughs literally sitting in my chest, waiting to come out, but my humor never aroused enough for laugher to happen.
At first I thought it was because the style of comedy was too old and they needed to add some new writers outside of the family. Then I remembered not too long ago I watched Sextuplets for the first time and I was laughing my ass off. So that wasn't the problem.
The problem was that they were trying to fit too much into one movie, bringing back the original characters after 25 years, introducing a whole new generation, trying to keep up with today's humor while staying true to the original cast's style, and showing us the relationships between the old and new characters. It was just too much going on at once, so fast, with no solid storyline. For this return after 25 years, they should've just focused on the reunion of the original castmates, and less of their children (the shift to the children could be in the sequel after this). This would've made the storyline smoother, and the give the jokes a way stronger chance of landing better.
Rating: 5/10
And for some reason even after all of the criticism and the 5/10 rating i have for this scary movie. I would still love to see another. That's how desperate i am for a good laugh...
